MCBC's Data in Society
MCBC is embarking on an exciting initiative to increase the accessibility and usability of its mortgage and small business lending data.
Our efforts to improve CRA and HMDA data digitization and visualization raise important questions about data inclusion. Join us as we think about:
- How power, inequality, and bias show up in big data sets and impact the collection, analysis and presentation of trends?
- How do we see the accessibility and useability of data translate into engagement?
Join us from 1-4pm on June 13th at the NonProfit Center in Boston.
- Welcome & Networking
- Presentation by Catherine D’Ignazio, Assistant Professor of Civic Media and Data Visualization at Emerson College and author of the forthcoming book, Data Feminism.
- Facilitated discussion and workshop activities led by Rahul Bhargava, MIT Media Lab’s Center for Civic Media
We think this is a very timely discussion as the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau contemplates limiting current HMDA data reporting and closing the open API on its site. See article links below.
