Getting the Most from your LIHTC Award

Once they have received LIHTC awards - or tax-exempt bond approval in the case of 4% deals - CDCs and other non-profit developers typically conduct a competitive process to select a syndicator or investor with whom to work. This training will look at how to solicit proposals; how to compare the proposals in order to get the best deal for your project, considering pric-ing, reserve and guarantee requirements, buyout provisions, and other factors; and how to negotiate on the points that are most important to your project. An initial presentation by Henry Joseph will be followed by a panel discussion and question-and-answer session.
Note: This is not Tax Credits 101; it assumes a basic understanding of how to use LIHTCs in a project.
Henry Joseph has been working as a housing and community development consultant for more than twenty-five years, specializing in supporting the creation and preservation of affordable housing in inner-city neighborhoods in the greater Boston area. His work has been concentrated in two areas: providing project specific development consulting services to community-based housing development organizations and resident associations and helping to enhance the capacity of these organizations through training and technical assistance.
