Creative Placemaking Innovation Forum
Mel King Institute Innovation Forum
Creative Placemaking Gains Momentum
This summer, the Mel King Institute and Mass Creative partnered with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to offer workshops on Creative Placemaking for artists and community developers in Holyoke, Salem and Worcester. Participants in these workshops learned how these two sectors are coming together to leverage their collective creativity, expertise and power to implement locally-tailored creative placemaking projects. The sponsors of these workshops learned that creative placemaking is gaining momentum and scale in Massachusetts and around the country. This Innovation Forum seeks to accelerate this momentum by highlighting exciting work from around the country and the state and identifying strategies for overcoming the challenges associated with this work.
The Forum will begin with remarks by Lynne McCormack, the Director of Creative Placemaking for the Local Initiatives Support Corporation who will talk about the state of practice nationally. This will be followed by a Discussion Panel of local practitioners to be facilitated by Jenn Erickson of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. Attendees will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions of our speakers and to discuss these issues with each other.
This event is made possible, in part, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to the National Association of Community and Economic Development Association (NACEDA)’s Creative Placemaking Immersion Program.
